Excuse; apology. 1. ~ a thabhairt, a dhéanamh, faoi rud, to make an excuse for sth. ~ a dhéanamh de rud, to treat sth. as an excuse. ~ a bheith agat chun, le, rud a dhéanamh, to have an excuse to do sth. Tá sé ina ~ aige, he has it as a pretext. Thug sé mar ~ (go), he offered the excuse (that). Níl ann ach ~, it is only an excuse. Dul ar ~ duine, to make an excuse for s.o. Ar ~ (go), on the plea (that). 2. (Do) ~ a ghabháil le duine as rud, to apologize to s.o. for sth. ~ duine a ghabháil, to accept s.o.’s apology; to excuse s.o. Gabh mo ~, excuse me.
